Over a period of four months, we completely remodelled this compact Victorian terraced house in Bermondsey, maximising the internal space with a host of cleverly-designed contemporary features.
The client and architect planned to make the most of the space and to increase the amount of light. We achieved this through a mix of structural changes, taking out internal walls and replacing them with steelwork beams, and lighting to brighten up the darker parts of the house.
Bright, white and reflective surfaces bounce the light around whilst areas of softer grey and natural woods slow things down and provide balance. We incorporated cleverly positioned skylights where possible and used toughened glass in key places to allow the maximum passage of light through the house.
The kitchen-diner opens flush onto the garden through stylish concertina patio doors. The house is transformed into an exciting and spacious dwelling that provides flexible and enjoyable spaces.
